When you have Lactose intolerance you have the inability to break down the sugar lactose into glucose and galactose. Lactose is found in dairy products. The lactose-digesting enzyme lactase is produced in the portion of the small intestine. Individuals that don’t produce this lactose enzyme experience an array of symptoms. Undigested lactose causes water retention in the large intestine causing intestinal contraction. You get lactose intolerance which causes fermentation in the large intestine where bloating, gas forms.
