Approximately 10 percent of American adults over age forty have diverticulosis.
This is a condition where the large condition swells and has pockets formed holding undigested foods. The most common site that this condition attacks is the sigmoid colon.
What has increased the incidence of this health ailment is the emergence of processed foods as well as extreme stress in the U.S. Another problem which contributes to this ailment as well as elevated cholesterol s lack of enough fiber in the diet. Symptoms of Diverticulosis:
Left lower abdominal and intestinal pain, changes in bowel habits, nausea or vomiting due to constipation and impaction, diarrhea, bloating and rectal bleeding due to rupture of blood vessels in the colon and anal canal.
Causes: Low fiber diet, lack of muscle tone in the abdominal and intestinal area due to decreased physical exercise and poor intestinal flora.
Recommended Food to Eat- Kefir, unsweetened yogurt if not lactose intolerant as well as drink at least 6-7 8 ounce glasses per day.
Foods to Avoid: milk, gluten, corn, red meat, simple sugar as well as alcohol
