Gingivitis is a type of periodontal disease Approximately 34% of Americans in the United States over thirty years of age have periodontal disease. When the gums are involved the condition is called gingivitis. When the bone and connecting tissues are involved, it is called periodontitis. This is a sign of infection, poor circulation, oxidation, and inflammation of the gums. The people who have this condition will have bleeding of the gums when they brush their teeth.
Symptoms: swollen, tender, or soft gums, gums that bleed easily when brushing, foul taste in the mouth, bad breath and gums are red, not pink.
Causes: Poor dental hygiene, dental plaque, chronic viral and fungal infections cancer, diabetes, and even AIDS patients, stress, pregnancy, and birth control pills. steroids, dry mouth, substance abuse, vitamin C deficiencies, poor intestinal flora, food sensitivities, as well coenzyme Q10 imbalance.
Recommended Food: salmon, trout, vegetables nuts, and seeds. Use chewing gum that contains Xylitol. This kills active bacteria in the oral cavity.
Foods to avoid: Sugar products. processed foods, candy, and fruit juices.
Nutritional Recommendations: Co-Enzyme Q10 100 mg daily with a meal. Folic acid mouthwash. 0.1%. Use 1/2 ounce 2 x daily and rinse mouth thoroughly for 1 minute before spitting out. Do not rinse and eat anything for 1 hour. Vitamin C 1000 mg 1 cap 3 times daily, Drink 3 cups of green tea per day. The polyphenols have been shown to fight mouth bacteria. Bioflavonoids 599 mg 2 x daily.
