HYPERTHYROIDISM

This condition occurs when the thyroid gland produces too many thyroid hormones known as thyroxine. Thyroid hormones can increase with metabolism causing many symptoms. The most common cause is an autoimmune condition known as Grave’s disease. This condition is more common in women over the age of 20. The immune system attacks the thyroid gland where it stimulates the release of an antibody known as thyrotrophin receptor which causes the thyroid to produce too much hormone.

Medical therapy has 3 approaches to handling this kind of problem.
  1. Antithyroid medication which suppresses the hormone
  2. Radioactive Iodine which kills the thyroid
  3. Surgery removes some or all of it.
The major cause of this condition is autoimmune response. such as hormone imbalance, chronic infections, and gluten allergy.
