Lupus is an auto-immune disorder in which antibodies mistakenly identify the body’s tissues as foreign substances and attach them, causing inflammation and pain. Lupus has two different forms, discoid lupus erythematosus and systemic lupus.
The only symptom at first is a scaly red butterfly lesion across the bridge of the nose onto the cheeks. There are people that have lupus that only affects the joints causing rheumatic joint disease as well as fatigue, headaches, and lowered immune system complicating attacks of bacterial and viral infections. The other type affects the connective tissue of the organs as well as the brain, No one knows the exact cause of Lupus. Doctors can only ease the worst flare-ups with medications for pain control and antibody suppression. The dangerous part is it can affect the kidneys and then start secondary hypertension.
Symptoms of SLE: Facial rash, fever, fatigue, weight loss, hair loss, sensitivity to sunlight, mouth sores, enlarged lymph nodes preferably in the neck, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, reoccurring bladder infections and positive ANA titers in the lab tests.
Causes: Allergic to certain medications, viruses, bacteria like staph or strep, prolonged emotional or physical stress, birth control pills, use of synthetic hormones , low hormone levels, food allergies, heavy metals, vitamin D deficiency as well as poor digestion of nutrients.
Foods to Eat: raw vegetables and citrus fruits preferably organic, vitamin E, flax seed oil to salads, 6-8 glasses of water per day, and increase calcium if you are on y to support your kidney function, Try doing a 3-day juice fast 1 time per month using green drinks such as chlorella or spirulina and most important avoid saturated fats and animal meats as much as possible.
Nutritional Recommendations: Fish Oil, up to 10 grams per day. Phytosterol complex helps to balance the immune system Try 20 mg x daily on an empty stomach.
DHEA 25 mg daily, and Vitamin D3 5000 IU daily help to modulate the immune system.
MSM- 4000 mg per day. Helps to supply sulfur to support the joint matrix. Digestive enzymes with each meal are equally important to help break down and absorb fats, starch, and protein 1 with each meal, Boswellia helps with inflammatory effects.
1200 mg per day, Bioidentical hormone replacement can be beneficial as it balances the immune system. 2 cups per day of green tea helps with detoxification and antioxidants, Milk thistle tincture for liver protection 10 drops orally 3 x daily. To reduce stress, taking GABA 500 mg morning and evening on an empty stomach will be a great aid.
Avoid bright sunlight, a brisk walk for 30 minutes each morning is excellent. Avoid birth control pills and synthetic hormones as this will trigger flare-ups.
