SINUSITIS!!!

Sinusitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the sinuses, which are air-filled spaces in the skull. When the sinuses can’t drain properly, however, the mucus accumulates and becomes stagnant, making the area ripe for infection. The swollen membranes feel even worse, because they can fill up the tiny sinus cavities and press against the bones of the face causing pain.

Sinusitis can be either acute or chronic. Sinusitis is usually caused by a complication from another respiratory infection such as a cold, the flu or bronchitis. Allergies can also cause sinusitis. If you feel heavy pressure or pain against your cheekbones or your eyes, you probably have sinusitis.

Research has shown that chronic sinusitis is most often related to an immune

response to a fungal infection in the sinus cavity.

Symptoms: facial pain or pressure, headache, congestion, nasal discharge, and decreased sense of smell, toothache, fatigue, fever, clogged nasal passages, thick greenish yellow nasal discharge as well as headaches.

Sinusitis can be caused by a variety of factors, including viral or bacterial infections, allergies, or anatomical abnormalities in the sinuses.

Causes: respiratory infection, allergies, tobacco and pollution food allergies, diet high in mucus forming foods such as dairy products, dental infection, lowered immune system and systemic candidiasis.

Foods to avoid: include dairy products, spicy or fried foods, and refined sugar, as they can exacerbate inflammation and mucus production. Foods to eat for sinusitis include fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, as well as probiotic-rich foods like yogurt and kefir, which can help support immune function.

Nutritional Recommendations: include staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol and caffeine, and incorporating anti-inflammatory foods into your diet.
