Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of an external sound source. It can be experienced as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or other sounds. It is estimated that about 15% of the population experiences tinnitus, and it can affect people of all ages.
Causes of Tinnitus:
- Exposure to loud noise
- Age-related hearing loss
- Ear infections
- Wax build-up
- Head injuries
- Certain medications
- High blood pressure
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
Symptoms of Tinnitus:
- Ringing, buzzing, hissing, or other sounds in the ears or head
- The perception of sound that is not present in the external environment
- Trouble sleeping
- Difficulty concentrating
- Anxiety and depression

- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Nicotine
- Salt
- Sugar
- Saturated fats
Foods to Eat:
- Fruits and vegetables
- Whole grains
- Lean proteins
- Low-fat dairy products
- Healthy fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, nuts, and seeds
Nutritional Recommendations:
- Get enough vitamin B12, which is found in animal products such as meat, fish, and dairy.
- Ensure adequate levels of zinc, which is found in oysters, beef, and beans.
- Consider taking a magnesium supplement, as low levels of magnesium have been linked to tinnitus.
- Ginkgo biloba 120 mg 2 x daily
- Pycnogenol 150 mg daily to help inner ear circulation and tinnitus
